General Discussion / 404

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I websurfed, weak and weary,

Over many a strange and spurious website of 'hot chicks galore',

While I clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning,

And my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour.

"'Tis not possible," I muttered, "give me back my cheap hardcore!"

Quoth the server, "404"

See how long you can last, as you fly a missile through a long tunnel...  The longer you're in, the faster you fly...

General Discussion / Littering
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:26:54 PM »

Bored, so...

Let's say you're driving in the mountains, and there are no homes or restrooms for miles.  If you pull over to the side of the road and take a dump, will that be considered littering?

Now lets shift to a different scenario.  Let's say you're a passenger in a vehicle, and for some reason, you took a dump on your hands.  You fling the pile of **** out the window.  Will you consider that littering?

General Discussion / Why Taxes Suck
« on: January 29, 2007, 04:44:04 AM »
About a year ago, Oracle held a contest for a trip to space.  A computer consultant, Brian Emmett, won the prize.  He could finally partake in his life-long dream, but his dreams were crushed after learning that he would owe the IRS $25,000 in taxes if he accepted the prize.  Unwilling to accumulate the debt, he gave up his seat.  In the United States, if you win a prize, you must report its fair market value.

I'm bored.  I discovered this through Adobe's web site.  It's a poem about the effects of consumerism on ethnicity, written by Adriel Luis, and performed by Karen Lum and William Tsang.

And as for that crap my sisters paint on their faces, that's not makeup, it's make-believe

Check it out.

My friend sent me this link.  This nebula, 650 light-years away from us, looks like an eyeball.  The composite is an authentic picture, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, and was featured at NASA's picture of the day on May 10th, 2003.  Check it out.

Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."

Steve Irwin, commonly known as the Crocodile Hunter, has died after getting stung from a Stingray.  While working on his latest documentary, "The Ocean's Deadliest," the crocodile hunter got too close to a Stringray.  At that point, he was stung in the chest.

General Discussion / Theoretical or Practical Knowledge
« on: August 13, 2006, 11:31:34 AM »
Which is more beneficial: theorectical or practical knowledge (on any subject matter)?

The way I see it:  Theoretical knowledge provides a broad, working view of a subject matter, and provides a greater opportunity to generate new ideas.  There are always unknown factors that will evolve the theory, either for better or worse -- for instance, a theoretical ideology undergoing change.  Practical knowledge is more realistic, and can be applied in the real world more effectively.  As new ideas and technologies emerge, there will be a tension between the two types of knowledge.

General Discussion / Windows Vista Speech Recognition Goes Awry

During a live demonstration of Vista's voice recognition technology, the demo goofed up and produced unexpected results.  "Dear mom" led to "Dear aunt, let's set so double the killer delete select all."  Intriguing...
